I have absolutely fallen in love all over again with Chimamanda. Things keep getting better with succeeding novels and really that is Da way things ahould go. Ist the Orange Prize nomination and then now Da real thing.Now i am really going to spend my money at Nu metro and get Half of a yellow sun. I hope it is a lot tighter than Kambili and does not make me cry.With an Xtra cool £30000, life can only get better for my namesake Ngozi Adichie.I really hope that one day she will write a book on romance but then she seems too stiff on that. Maybe a new genre-Stiff Romance.And Chude is it me or do you like Girls a lil more than normal? I thot you were the kinda guy who did not have time for 'frivolities' such as women esp as i have followed u since Iyanda and Ajuonuma days.Well i was wrong huh? As for meeting u as naturally as possible, i mean thAt i do not want to have to meet you formally or in an pre-arranged way but u know A 'bump into you' kinda fin. C'mon what were u thinking. Broda, to da Pure, all things are pure. Whatever sha, i think you ROCK!!!
God. I hope to command your devotion soon?
She really is an ispiration....
@ezaha,
aw. Thanks a lot. that means a lot to me, thanks. and yes o, in fact if you are around me, i will torment you about girls endlessly - yuou do not know the half of it. my best friends, especially emilia are sick of it!!! oh about my ajuonuma and funmi days ... maybe i am compensating for . i do hope to meet you soon too, and yes my mind is proudlyt impure!!!! how you dey?
@idemmili,
I have a feeling that you will!!! And my instincts are usually enviable ... lol
my 2cents,
oh she is ... thanks for dropping in
Very happy that she won the award. and it deserves to win, cause it is a brilliant book. But \chude, I don't get it, why does NIgeria owes her anything? Does britain owe Zadie smith, Andrea Levy all previous winners of the award? This is the kind of speech that makes countries like ours start naming street after award winners. Nigeria owes her nothing. NIgerians should be proud of her, but to say Nigeria owes her is a bit over the top.
Temilade
Temi,
In fact I am disappointed that we still havent renameed IBB way after Chimamanda.
Let me tell you why you and your nation should be grateful to the young woman: unlike every other progressive nation, we have regused to acknwoledge oru history and the fact that most of the ethnic politrics and lack of cohesion that we suffer as our nation comes from the fact that decades ago, our nation witnessed one of the worst genocides in these parts at the time.
RFor years after that, no one paid any attention because no writer had the finesse, depth and gumption to present these issues to a generation that sorely needs to understand its past to navigate the future.
Chimamanda has jumpstarted that debate - nationally and internationally. I have seen young Ibo, Yoruba, Hausa women whose perspectives have been awakened by what Chimamanda has presented. The more awards she wins for using her talents so effectively, the more this issue remains on the frontburner - the more the debate continues. The more we learn, the more we know.
We owe Chimamanda for this undeserved gift - as well as being a much-=needed symbol for young people to keep hope in the arts and in their talents, and in the power of vision.
